Balcony Birdwatching Field Data

In this data set each row on the data sheet represents a species level observation. The purpose of this data is to measure how the biodiversity of birds varies with different percentages of greenspaces at local parks. This experimental data was taken on 10 non-consecutive days from October 9th, 2020 to October 20th, 2020. Observations on birds were made at 5 local parks that ranged in the percentages of greenspace. The average percent of greenspace in a specific park was estimated by randomly placing 5, 50m trancests and using a 0.5m by 0.5m quadrat to measure the percentage of greenspace every 1m. Randomization of transects was conducted by using a digital random number generator to generate a number from 1-300 and walk that many steps. This was repeated 5 times and each time the direction was alternated by using a digital random direction generator. The site at which observations would take place were randomly selected using a random number generator. Observations were taken twice in a single day at two times of the day, one at 8:30AM and one at 4:30PM. This was repeated twice for each site and each observation was taken for a duration of 1 hour. Identification of birds was made using the iNaturalist app and website. Photographs of birds were also taken to help identify unknown bird species. <br>
