A comparison study of the aspects of the biology of Philippine and Mariana Trenches.The 2 trenches are nearly equl in depth yet differe in their food supply with the Mariana Trench being oligotrophic. The comparisons may shed light on the relative importance of depth and of food supply affecting the rate of function of deep-sea life. Animals and microbes will be studied.
