Treks: Rolwaling Valley

aken during June 1969 this collection shows the approach via villages along the Tamba Khosi river to the settlement of Lambogar (Lamabagar) almost at the Tibetan border and then eastwards along the Rolwaling valley to the village of Beding. From there the photos show a short journey to the windswept and barren high altitude grazing land at Nan even further eastwards. There are included six images of rather dangerous bridges along the Tamba Khosi and two of wooden paths up hills and round boulders, all of which were crossed in the process. Beding is renowned for its temple and a cave associated with the 11th cent. Tibetan yogin Milarepa. Situated a thousand feet above the village its approach path is alarming. Beding lies on the southern side of Gauri Shankar mountain and the mountain views approaching the village are also recorded here. The grazing grounds at Nan were the limit of the trek as the wind picked up tennis ball sized rocks and hurled them at dangerous speed making transit impossible.
