A high-quality chromosome-level reference genome assembly of Yunnan red-backed vole (Eothenomys miletus)

Yunnan red-backed vole (Eothenomys miletus), a naturally occurring species in Hengduan Mountain of southwest China, has evolved a series of genetic and physiological adaptation strategies to thrive in the harsh plateau environments. However, limited research on the genome of this species exists. Here, we established a high-quality chromosome-level reference genome assembly of the E. miletus using PacBio HiFi, and Hi-C sequencing data. The final genome assembly was 2.82 GB in length (contig N50: 43.33 Mb; scaffold N50: 94.65 Mb), with 29 chromosomes (27 + X + partial Y). The Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Ortholog (BUSCO) score was 99.30%, indicating that our assembly is of high quality and completeness. This genome not only contribute to the genetic conservation of E. miletus but also provides a valuable resource for genetic, ecological, and evolutionary research within the sub-family Arvicolinae.
