This dataset contains the ultrasonic and electrical data from the study entitled “Electrical Conductivity and Sound Velocities of Talc under High Pressure and High Temperature Conditions: Application to the Subducting Cocos Plate” by Hao et al., published in JGR-Solid Earth.
Acoustic measurements were conducted using ultrasonic interferometry in a Paris-Edinburgh press at pressures up to 3.4 GPa and temperatures up to 873 K on natural talc aggregate with different crystallographic orientations. In the spreadsheet, acoustic experiments correspond to tabs A1, A2, A3, and A4 (1 tab per experiment). In each tab, pressure, temperature, travel distance, travel time, and compressional wave velocities are listed for each measurement.
Electrical measurements on talc samples from the same starting material were performed at pressures of 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, and 6.0 GPa and temperatures up to 1264 K, using impedance spectroscopy in a multi-anvil press. In the spreadsheet, electrical experiments correspond to tabs BBC46, 47, 48, 49, 53, 55, and 56 (1 tab per experiment). In each tab, pressure, temperature, sample thickness, bulk electrical resistance, and electrical conductivity are listed for each measurement.
