AM.Backwater bodies

AM.Backwater bodies are adapted to comply with the INSPIRE data specification for the theme Areas under specific management/restriction/regulation, as well as reporting units. AM.Backwater bodies report occurrences of groundwater identified in water management. Water management is working to meet the requirements of the Water Framework Directive 2006/60/EC and the Groundwater Directive (2006/118/EC) and other directives. The boundaries of the groundwater bodies coincide mainly with SGU’s mapped groundwater reservoirs in sand and gravel, as well as in sedimentary and crystalline aquifers, but are specifically demarcated for the purposes of water management. Groundwater bodies are found in soil or mountains that have particularly good conditions for groundwater extraction. Groundwater bodies are important resources for, among other things, the supply of drinking water.
