Beet rust population genomics and RNA-seq for annotation

As quickly as we deploy novel resistances for crop defence, pathogens evolve to circumvent them. Our goal was to assess whether differences between pathogens that can infect crops and crop wild relatives were greater in the fungal effector genes. We find that effector genes have preserved more diversity and that they differ significantly more between populations than expected compared to non-effector genes.
