Quantity of waste generated and sorted per inhabitant per year

The indicator represents the annual amount of household and similar waste collected by the public waste management service. This quantity is reduced to the number of Parisians. This quantity concerns residual household waste (unsorted waste) and separate collection (sorted waste): bio-waste, multi-materials, glass packaging and occasional waste. The data are taken from the Annual Report on the price and quality of the public service for the prevention and management of household and similar waste in Paris. This report is produced each time by the Directorate for Cleanliness and Water. In 2022, the generation of household and similar waste per capita was 3.3% lower than in 2019. Compared to 2021, the amount of waste in Paris is up by 5.8%. However, this figure needs to be qualified in view of the health crisis, which had severely reduced economic and tourism activity in 2020 and 2021. Tonnages of residual household waste decreased by 9% compared to 2019, while those of multimaterials and glass increased by 9.7% and 1.4% respectively. Sorting errors also decrease from 25.48% in 2021 to 22.53% in 2022.
