Genomics and meiotic segregation study of Saccharomycodes ludwigii

Saccharomycodes ludwigii is a budding yeast species of the Saccharomycodaceae family and is usually isolated as a spoilage agent of wine and other fermentation products. Although it is a fully sexual species, previous genetic analyses suggested that meiotic crossing over occurs extremely rarely in this organism. In this project, we obtained the first high-contiguity genome assembly of Saccharomycodes ludwigii (strain NBRC 1722), a manually curated gene annotation dataset and genome sequence data of meiotic segregants of the species. Overall, this data provides direct evidence that Saccharomycodes ludwigii is an ideal candidate for evolutionary studies of recombination rates and genome evolution.
