The collaborative experiment uses continuous GPS to study the hydraulics of the subglacial lake system on Whillans Ice Stream (WIS). In addition to the presence of subglacial lakes, WIS undergoes stick-slip motion accomodating up to 0.5 m of slip in 30 min episodes, twice daily, A supplement to this grant funds the graduate student, Jacob Walter, to use passive broadband seismometers to study the stick-slip episodes, in consult with his co-advisors, Susan Schwartz, Emily Brodsky, and Slawek Tulaczyk
