A free-running version of ROMS, the Regional Ocean Modelling System, is implemented for a domain in the Northern Gulf of Mexico. This 500m solution, which excludes river forcing, is used to characterize the role of river forcing in generating submesoscale currents in the Northern Gulf of Mexico.
