Tropical Forest Loss Dynamics Data: Research (Publications & Citations), Land Use, and Economic Indicators (1990–2022)

This dataset supports the study "A Biblio-Econometric Analysis of Tropical Forest Loss Dynamics" and provides an integrated compilation of data used to analyze the dynamics of tropical forest loss (TFL) from 1990 to 2022. Structured around the Tropical Forest Trap Model and interpreted through the Research–Integration–Utilization (RIU) framework, the dataset combines bibliometric indicators (scientific publications and citations on TFL) with land use and macroeconomic variables to explore the causal relationships driving deforestation in tropical regions. The dataset includes annual, country-level data on: Tropical forest loss (million hectares), Scientific research output (total publications and citations related to TFL), Agricultural land expansion (million hectares), Logging activity (forest rents as % of GDP), Mining (Mineral rents as % of GDP), and GDP per capita (constant 2015 USD). Data were compiled from multiple open-access sources, including Scopus (for bibliometrics), World Bank’s World Development Indicators, and the Tropical Moist Forest Product (TMF). The dataset is structured to support time-series econometric analysis, including Granger causality and Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) models. This dataset enables researchers and policymakers to investigate how scientific knowledge interacts with economic and environmental systems in shaping forest governance outcomes across the tropics.
