VPRS 11346 Register of Investigation Files (General Jurisdiction)

This series comprises registers created by the Office of the Ombudsman (VA 1037) in order to allocate file numbers, summarise details about each case and to track the movement of files created in the course of investigating complaints in its general jurisdiction. This jurisdiction relates to complaints concerning administrative actions taken in Victorian Government Departments, statutory bodies or by officers and employees of municipal councils. These registers incorporate information for all investigations undertaken in the General Jurisdiction including those where the relevant file in VPRS 11347 was authorised for destruction.These registers record, for each complaint, the name and address of the person, association, organisation or Member of Parliament making the complaint, the Government agency which is the subject of the complaint, a brief description of the complaint (usually written in very general terms such as `failure to act properly) and an indication of the result of the investigation. The result is usually written up in an alpha numeric code. The annual report of the Office of the Ombudsman can be used to determine the meanings of these codes. File movement detail is also recorded by reference to the initials of the officer and the date that officer was allocated the file.
