Anther development from stamen primordium to pollen dispersion is complex and essential to sexual reproduction. To add detail to the patterns of gene expression characteristic of specific phases of maize anther development, here we generated 21 RNA-seq libraries spanning ten key stages across the entirety of anther development. Together, our work provides a glimpse of the gene expression dynamics and highlights a potential gene resource for future functional studies of anther development.
