Antarctic solar terrestrial and geophysical studies from geomagnetic and GPS data

This dataset contains information on monitoring the geomagnetic field. The aim
of this and the previous campaign is a qualitative jump in the magnetic
observatory operation as it receives hourly data transmissions from Meteosat
satellite which is registered by the station in Edinburgh, the central office
of magnetic data collection, and then later transmitted to the Ebre Observatory
by electronic mail. The data transmissions started during the 1999-2000
campaign, have been working even during the last two southern winters. The
novelty of the project in this campaign is the use of another equipment of the
station, the differential GPS, to study the content of electrons in the
ionosphere. This data together with the study of external magnetic
disturbances contained in the Observatory registers can give some idea of the
space weather situation.

Esta ficha contiene informacion sobre la monitorizacion del campo geomagnetico.
El objetivo de la anterior campana y tambien de esta supone un salto
cualitativo en el funcionamiento del observatorio magnetico, ya que se ha
conseguido la transmision horaria, via satelite Meteosat, de los datos
registrados por la estacion hasta Edimburgo, sede de un nodo mundial de
recoleccion de datos magneticos, para su posterior transmision via correo
electronico al Observatori de l'Ebre. La transmision se inicio durante la
campana 1999-2000, y ha continuado en funcionamiento incluso durante los dos
ultimos inviernos australes. La novedad del proyecto en esta campana es la
utilizacion de otro equipo de la base, el GPS diferencial, para el estudio del
contenido de electrones en la ionosfera, un dato que ligado al estudio de las
perturbaciones magneticas de origen externo contenidas en los registros del
Observatorio, puede dar idea de la situacion del tiempo espacial.
