Lab 3 Dataset 4 - Bird Species Abundance Along a Transect, Group 4

This lab was executed to determine the species abundance in a specific area. 10 belt transects of 10 metres by 10 metres were laid out randomly, 5 in the Danby grasslands and 5 in the Danby woodlot, each watched for 1 minute. Each time a bird landed in the transect or flew over it, the species and abundance was recorded. The species was determined by the observers with the help of <em>Person Field Guide to Birds of North America</em> by Roger Tory Peterson . The approximate distance from the beginning of the transect to the sighting of the bird was recorded. The wind speed was determined using the observers discretion and the Beaufort Scale. Data was collected at Danby grasslands and Danby woodlot at York University on September 30th, 2015 around 3:30pm. The weather was around 15°C with a slight overcast and mild breeze.
