This is a GIS of Apedemak Temple, Musawwarat es Sufra, Sudan. GIS (Geographic Information System) is a digital toolset used to map, analyze, and visualize spatial data related to a site, enabling the documentation, preservation, and interpretation of archaeological features and historical environments.<i>The information in this site description is provided for contextual purposes only and should not be regarded as a primary source.</i><br>The Apedemak Temple is a Kushite religious structure dedicated to the lion-headed deity Apedemak. Located within a walled precinct, the temple features relief carvings, inscriptions, and architectural elements that reflect indigenous religious practices and artistic conventions. The site illustrates the integration of local beliefs with broader Nubian cultural traditions and contributes to understanding temple architecture and iconography in ancient Sudan.Apedemak Temple is part of the listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, <b>'Archaeological Sites of the Island of Meroe'</b>.The Zamani Project seeks to increase awareness and knowledge of tangible cultural heritage in Africa and internationally by creating metrically accurate digital representations of historical sites. Digital spatial data of cultural heritage sites can be used for research and education, for restoration and conservation, and as a record for future generations.
