Changes in Permafrost Bacterial Community Composition after Thaw Across Multiple Alaskan Locations

This laboratory study investigated how microbiome communities from six Alaskan permafrost samples, collected from various locations, shift under a uniform thaw regime. We assessed permafrost communities before and at the end of an 8-week incubation period, during which we applied stepwise increases in temperature. The study aimed to evaluate variability in microbial communities within intact permafrost and understand community assembly processes. Our results align with previous research, highlighting the variability in both abiotic properties and microbial community composition across different permafrost sites.
