VPRS 16872 Minute Books of the Royal Children's Hospital Volunteer Service

This series comprises minute books of the Royal Children's Hospital Volunteer Service, containing minutes of their Committee and Annual General Meetings between 1961 and 1986. It also contains minutes of the Child Minding Centre Committee from 1965 to 1981. The minutes are signed and dated by the Chair. Included in some minutes are lists of service awards for volunteers.The volunteer movement began in July 1961 following a study of the operation of volunteer services in American hospitals. It commenced with 126 volunteers who worked part-time and were unpaid. Volunteers performed numerous tasks ranging from counting and packing pills in the Hospital's dispensary to providing interpreting services.
