CoAgN2(NO2)4 crystallizes in the tetragonal P4/nnc space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of eight nitrous acid molecules and two CoAgN2 ribbons oriented in the (0, 0, 1) direction. In each CoAgN2 ribbon, Co3+ is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent N2+ atoms. Both Co–N bond lengths are 1.67 Å. Ag1+ is bonded in a linear geometry to two equivalent N2+ atoms. Both Ag–N bond lengths are 2.01 Å. N2+ is bonded in a linear geometry to one Co3+ and one Ag1+ atom.
