"From Perceived Design Affordance to Fear Reduction_Documents Related to the Experimental Procedure"

"This repository provides the full dataset and analysis pipeline for a study on children\u2019s perceived design affordance (PDA), fear, and approach behaviour in pediatric imaging environments (e.g., CT rooms). Data were collected in five hospitals from N=157 children (151 valid cases) aged 3\u201312 years, their accompanying parent, and a tri-source subsample with observer ratings. The children\u2019s questionnaire includes 45 items organised into nine design dimensions (A\u2013I) with four positive affordance facets (Comprehensibility, Controllability, Affinity, Playfulness) and one fear item per dimension, plus five items on overall approach\/willingness to engage. Pre-computed composites include child PDA and fear means, with additional variables for age group, gender, hospital, and prior negative medical experience. The parent questionnaire contains 12 items indexing proxy fear\/adjustment judgements, while the observer shorthand file codes on-site behaviour (approach, hesitation, need for soothing, compliance). Together, the three linked tables support reliability testing, within-child comparisons across design dimensions, convergent validity across sources, and regression models predicting approach from PDA, fear, and background factors, and they enable extended secondary analyses on pediatric environmental design and affect."
