Brotherhood of St Laurence Survey of Leisure Activities Adult Questionnaires, 1958

In April 1958, Reverend Robert Richard U'Ren was appointed Research Worker for the Brotherhood of St Laurence's study of community life. With the assistance of numerous community leaders and officers of organisations, U'Ren developed a comprehensive questionnaire covering leisure activities and facilities in a Melbourne housing estate. The interviewing began in August 1958, and most of the work was completed in three and a half months, with the results eventually published in 1962. Every questionnaire recorded the respondent's address, details of family members, income, type of house, employment, transport, clubs and organisations, sporting and social facilities, details of leisure pursuits, concerns about children, educational priorities, economic and housing expectations, social life and activities. The data from scanned versions of these surveys were captured using LimeSurvey, and from there exported to SPSS.
