Dataset for dental microwear texture analysis of archaeological sika deer from the Initial Jomon site (Iyai Rockshelter Site, Japan)

This repository contains the full dataset associated with dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA) conducted on sika deer (Cervus nippon) specimens from the Iyai Rockshelter Site, Japan. The dataset is organized into four folders, each corresponding to a different stage of data acquisition and processing: 1) Original Scans (VK4 format)This folder contains the raw confocal microscopy data acquired using a Keyence VK-X series instrument. Files are provided in VK4 format, which preserves the original surface measurements prior to any processing. These files represent the primary data source. 2) Analysis MNT files (MNT format)This folder contains the MountainsMap project files (.mnt) used for data processing and analysis. These files include the full workflow applied to each scan (e.g., leveling, filtering, and surface reconstruction) and allow complete reproducibility of the analysis within MountainsMap software. 3) Analysis PDF/RTF filesThis folder contains exported versions of the MNT files in PDF or RTF format. These files provide accessible visualizations of the processed surfaces and analysis steps for users who do not have access to MountainsMap. 4) Processed and filtered surface files (SUR format)This folder contains the processed surface data used for the calculation of ISO 25178-2 surface texture parameters. Files are provided in SUR format and represent the final surfaces after filtering and preprocessing steps.
