Based on the self-designed and developed OFR, the experimental study on the oxidation of α-pinene to SOA was carried out. The reactor is capable of independently controlling temperature, humidity and oxidant concentration. For particles larger than 50 nm, the reactor has very small wall. In the O3 oxidation experiments, SOA yields were found to be dependent on O3 concentration, precursor concentration and SOA mass concentration. In the OH radical oxidation experiments, SOA yields were dependent on relative humidity, precursor concentration, SOA mass concentration, OH radical concentration and acidic seed aerosol concentration. The addition of acidic seed aerosols significantly increased the particle number concentration and particle size, resulting in a factor of 1.2-1.5 increase in SOA yield. In addition, The results of this reactor were compared with those of previous reactor/smog chamber in the literature, and the oxidation performance of this OFR was validated. These results can provide technical support and theoretical guidance for the continued use of OFR to simulate the ageing of biomass combustion emissions in the future.
