Clinical and pathological dataset from a study on MRI-TRUS fusion and coaxial biopsy for prostate cancer diagnosis

Description This dataset contains the clinical and pathological records of 212 patients with suspected prostate cancer who underwent transperineal prostate biopsy between May 2022 and November 2023. The study aimed to compare the diagnostic efficacy, safety, and learning curve of a novel integrated biopsy technique against the conventional approach. Methods Patients were allocated into two groups: Group A (n=83): Underwent a combined biopsy strategy using MRI-TRUS cognitive fusion integrated with Superb Microvascular Imaging (SMI) guidance for targeted biopsy, alongside a systematic biopsy scheme, utilizing a coaxial needle system. Group B (n=129): Underwent a standard TRUS-guided template-based transperineal systematic biopsy (SB) without targeted sampling. Data Content The dataset includes the following variables for each patient: Group: Study group allocation (A or B). Patient_ID: Unique identifier within the group. Demographics: Age and BMI. Pre-biopsy Assessment: Serum PSA level, Prostate Volume, PSA Density (PSAD), and PI-RADS score (v2) from multiparametric MRI. Biopsy Details: Number of biopsy cores, pathological diagnosis, and Gleason Score (if applicable). Procedural Outcomes: Operative time (minutes), intraoperative pain (VAS score), and perioperative complications. Usage Notes This dataset was curated for the research article entitled " Integrated MRI-TRUS Cognitive Fusion with Superb Microvascular Imaging for Coaxial Prostate Biopsy: Enhanced Diagnostic Efficacy, Safety, and Learning Curve" submitted to Scientific Reports. The data can be used to validate the study's findings, for comparative analysis of biopsy techniques, or as a cohort for secondary analysis in prostate cancer research. Missing Gleason Score values indicate cases where prostate cancer was not detected.
