Detailed insights into the bacterial gut community of the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber)

Castor fiber is a large semi-aquatic rodent which feeds on trees bark and some aquatic plants among other foods. In this study, we examined the gut bacterial community from two males (juvenile and subadult) and one female subadult beaver. Therefore, bacterial DNA from gut compartments (stomach to colon) were extracted, and the 16S rRNA genes were amplified and sequenced using Illumina MiSeq with primers targeting regions V3 to V4.
