Using the full-length zinc protease gene (znpA, 1,227 bp) from type strains and clinical isolates of Fusobacterium nucleatum, Fusobacterium hwasookii (FH), and Fusobacterium periodonticum (FP), we reconstructed a phylogenetic tree. The resulting analysis robustly places strain PK1595 within the F. hwasookii lineage, rather than in the F. nucleatum group where it had previously been classified.
