Treated sewage effluent from the Sutherland Shire, including low-level effluent from the Lucas Heights Science & Technology Centre (LHSTC), passes through the Cronulla Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and is discharged at Potter Point. Fish at Potter Point ocean outfall and a reference site at The Royal National Park were collected. These organisms are known to concentrate a variety of elements, including radionuclides, from their environment. The fish commonly known as Luderick (Girella sp.), were filleted and skinned. The fish flesh was dried ground and analysed for gamma-emitting radioisotopes.
