Data and Code for:Language and Family Entrepreneurship: Empirical research based on micro survey data of CFPS in China

The China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) aims to reflect the changes in Chinese society, economy, population, education, and health by tracking and collecting data at the individual, family, and community levels, providing a data foundation for academic research and public policy analysis.CFPS focuses on the economic and non-economic welfare of Chinese residents, as well as many research topics including economic activities, educational achievements, family relationships and dynamics, population migration, health, etc. It is a national, large-scale, and multidisciplinary social tracking survey project. The CFPS sample covers 25 provinces/cities/autonomous regions, with a target sample size of 16000 households. The survey subjects include all family members in the sample households. CFPS conducted initial and follow-up testing surveys in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong in 2008 and 2009, and officially launched visits in 2010. All baseline family members and their future blood/adopted children, as defined by the 2010 baseline survey, will be permanently tracked as genetic members of CFPS. The CFPS survey questionnaire consists of four main types: community questionnaire, family questionnaire, adult questionnaire, and children's questionnaire. Based on this, various types of questionnaires have been continuously developed, including long questionnaire, short questionnaire, proxy questionnaire, and telephone interview questionnaire, targeting different types of family members.CFPS is implemented by the China Social Science Survey Center (ISSS) at Peking University. The project uses computer-aided survey technology to conduct visits to meet diverse design needs, improve access efficiency, and ensure data quality. It is a major project funded by Peking University and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.A large number of staff have made tremendous efforts and selfless contributions to the investigation of CFPS, and the results achieved by CFPS embody collective wisdom and hard work. They are experts and scholars in various professional fields, including many universities at home and abroad, who have put in a lot of effort to carry out investigations. They provide a data team with reliable quality and convenient use of data, as well as frontline visitors.CFPS received strong assistance from the National Population and Family Planning Commission, the National Bureau of Statistics, Shanghai University, Sun Yat sen University, and Lanzhou University during the implementation process. In terms of investigation design, technical support, and other aspects, the Center for Social Studies at the University of Michigan in the United States has provided us with a lot of guidance and assistance, and we have established a good cooperative relationship.
