In this project proteomics and transcriptomics data are used to unravel toxin gene evolution for the ichneumonid species Pimpla turionellae. Besides the first in depth description of its venom cocktail the genome structure will be analysed as well for this species. Interesting candidate genes are later expressed and tested in detail for their activities. The work is conducted within the new work group Animal Venomics at the Institute for Insectbiotechnolog (Justus Liebig University of Giessen and Fraunhofer IME Giessen).This project is further funded by the Fraunhofer IME Giessen, The Justus Liebig University Giessen and the LOEWE Centre for Translational Biodiversity Genomics at Senckenberg, Frankfurt. This work is linked to a larger project of BMvReumont on hymenopteran venom evolution with a focus on aculeate hymenopterans, which is funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG RE3454/6-1).
