RNA editing of genomic neighbors controls antiviral response in fungi

This study used Neurospora crassa, a newly established model of fungal virology, to demonstrate that novel ribonucleic acid (RNA) editing controls the antiviral response. Overexpression of OTT_1508-like deaminase-1 (old-1) shows RNA editing in the absence of viral infection and putative catalytic dead mutations in old-1 abolish antiviral-responsive RNA editing. Overall design: Cells were lysed and subjected to RNA extraction followed by library preparation for strand-specific RNA seq. 62 samples in total, replicates varied by sample.
