Images from a Building Survey of York Street Wall, Manningtree, Essex, July 2020

This collection comprises images from a building survey of York Street Wall, Manningtree, Essex. This work was undertaken by Place Services at the Essex County Council in July 2020. The wall was built of reused bricks, paving bricks, clinker, and stone in a lime mortar. Panels of rubble and clinker with decorative brickwork were interspersed with brick piers. The clinker originated at the former Manningtree Gasworks which originally stood adjacent to the site. There were frequent examples of reused moulded stones in the wall's fabric, which may have originated at demolished ecclesiastical sites in nearby Mistley.
