OverviewTheGlobalhepatitisreport2026providesthemostcomprehensiveandup-to-dateassessmentoftheglobalburdenofhepatitisB(HBV)andhepatitisC(HCV),whichtogetheraccountformorethan95%ofdeathsrelatedtoviralhepatitis.Despitebeingpreventableandtreatable,viralhepatitisremainsoneoftheleadinginfectiousdiseasekillersworldwide.Thereportalsohighlightstheprogressinresponseeffortsatglobal,regionalandcountrylevels,inthecontextofglobalcommitments,strategiesandtargets.Thereportisorganizedaround4majortopics:Anoverviewofglobalcommitments,strategiesandtargetsrelatedtoviralhepatitis;ThestatusoftheHBVandHCVepidemicsandtrendsintheperiod2015–2024;Progressincoverageofinterventionsforprevention,diagnosisandtreatment;andPrioritiesforactionatglobalandregionallevelstoaccelerateprogresstowardsthe2030eliminationtargets,andassociatedcountryexamples.ThereportisprimarilybasedondatacompiledfromMemberStatesinperiodicroundsofglobalhepatitisdatacollectionmanagedbyWHOandmodel-basedestimatesofincidence,prevalenceandmortality.Inthe2025round,140WHOMemberStatesreporteddata,anincreasefrom113inthepreviousroundin2023.AdditionaldatasourcesincludetheWHOGlobalHealthObservatoryanddatabasesmanagedbyotherUNagencies.
