Title: Managing Reactive Nitrogen in Spring Wheat Cropping Systems: Insights from Kabul, Afghanistan Description: This dataset supports the research article "Managing Reactive Nitrogen in Spring Wheat Cropping Systems: Insights from Kabul, Afghanistan." It provides comprehensive data on soil nitrogen dynamics, ammonia emissions, nitrate leaching, and agronomic performance in spring wheat cropping systems. The data were collected through field experiments conducted in Kabul, Afghanistan, to evaluate nitrogen use efficiency and sustainability in wheat farming. Contents of the Dataset: The dataset includes: Soil Properties: Physical and chemical characteristics of the study site, including surface (0–15 cm) and subsurface (15–30 cm) soil NO₃⁻ and NH₄⁺ content. Nitrogen Dynamics: Ammonia (NH₃) emissions. Nitrate (NO₃⁻) and ammonium (NH₄⁺) leaching from the soil profile. Agronomic Data: Growth and yield parameters of spring wheat. Wheat biomass and nitrogen uptake. Nitrogen Inputs and Outputs: Fertilizer applications and nitrogen balance calculations. Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE): Partial nitrogen balance calculations and efficiency metrics to assess the sustainability of nitrogen management practices. Additional data were derived from these primary measurements and are not separately included.
