Estimating Dental Age of New Zealand Juveniles and Subadults using Demirjian's Method

This thesis evaluates the application of the Demirjian 1976 method and Te Moananui modified Demirjian method of dental age estimation for New Zealand juveniles and subadults, where ancestry was firstly not considered and then a subgroup composed of three ancestral groups was subsequently analysed. Males and females were grouped separately also. Evaluation of the methods using summary statistics showed the methods to be less accurate than desirable, however, Transition Analysis shows promise in producing population-specific standards for the New Zealand population by addressing the issue of age mimicry seen in traditional regression analyses.
