Tourism direct gross value added in South Africa 2015-2021

The direct gross value added by the tourism industry in South Africa reached close to 129 billion South African rand in 2021 (nearly 7 billion U.S. dollars), marking an increase of around 18.4 percent compared to the previous year. Since 2015, the tourism direct gross value added (TDGVA) had mostly followed an increasing trend until the Covid-19 pandemic brought the tourism industry to a halt in 2020.
