Penguin settlement phenology and associated environmental data
收藏资源简介:
Pygoscelid penguin settlement data for three species (Adelie, Chinstrap and Gentoo) across 37 different colonies located on the Antarctic Peninsula and the Sub-Antarctic Atlantic Islands of South Georgia, The Falklands/Malvinas and Isla Martillo in Tierra de Fuego. Settlement was defined as the first date on which continuous daily presence of penguins at the nesting area in view began (far away parts of the colony in the background are ignored). We chose ‘Settlement’ over ‘Arrival’ (first recorded presence in the colony) partly because first records are by necessity extreme values and hence not representative of the population. Moreover, Gentoos often have intermittent presence at their colonies throughout winter, rendering ‘first arrival’ inadequate. This dataset also contains other environmenta variables relevant to each colony and season studied in the JoAE paper "Record phenological responses to climate change in three sympatric penguin species" by Juarez Martinez et al. that this dataset is associated with. These include colony ID (Colname), Camera ID (camname3), Days Above Zero/freezing in October (dazoct), Median spring air temperature at the colonies (spgmedian), Winter sea Ice at a 20Km radius (mdn_veintewin) and net primary productivity at a five Km radius (mdn_cinconpp).
