This record was based on Gentry & Smith 45084 (MO-n.v., U- 1578709 [digital image!]), which only have young inflorescences and the leaf morphology does not completely match H. apiculata. In addition, leaflets with involute margin at the apex have been detected in some species of Esenbeckia Kunth (1825: 246), e.g. in E. cornuta Engler (1874: 146), and occasionally in Balfourodendron Corr. Méllo ex Oliver (in Hooker 1877: 3–4). It is considered here that assign a precise identity to the specimen Gentry & Smith 45084 is not possible while fruiting specimens from that population have not seen.
