Epithelial overexpression of IL-33 induces eosinophilic esophagitis dependent on IL-13

To examine the role of the epithelial-derived cytokine, IL-33, in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) pathogenesis we developed a novel mouse model (EoE33) in which a secreted and active form of IL-33 is overexpressed by esophageal epithelial cells. To assess transcriptional changes associated with esophageal overexpression of IL-33, bulk RNA sequencing was performed on whole esophageal tissue biopsies from eight week old male transgenic EoE33 mice (n=4) and wild-type C57BL/6J littermates (n=4).
