This study aimed to determine how land use and climate zone can influence phytoplankton communities, including harmful cyanobacterial Blooms (HCBs) and their phycosphere-associated bacterial communities (PBCs). It includes the first characterization of PBCs within dominant phytoplankton communities in volcanic-origin lakes in Guatemala, specifically Lake Amatitlan and Laguna del Pino. Furthermore will examine how seasonality modulates HCBs and their PBCs in the temperate Sulejow Reservoir, Poland. The findings aim to support global efforts to assess how land use affects water quality and the emergence of microbial threats in freshwater ecosystems.
