Sectoral Territorial Plan for the Management of Margins of Rivers and Streams of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country

The Plan develops the determinations of the Spatial Planning Guidelines following two paths: on the one hand, specifying and materializing the criteria for the protection to be granted to the channels in order to avoid flooding in the different waterways and, on the other hand, establishing the criteria for the protection of the margins of the channels in view of the ecological value of their riparian vegetation, to conclude with criteria for the management of the different sections of each channel in terms of the different uses that could occur in its margins, mainly in relation to urban and building uses. Thus, one of the fundamental proposals of this Sectoral Territorial Plan is the division of all watercourses into sections of homogeneous problems and their zoning based on the analysis of three components: environmental, hydraulic and urban planning.
