The aim of our research was to determine the role of decaying dead in shaping the microbial activity of mountain soils. To achieve the goal, we will use a climate sequence approach comparing northern (N) and South (S) along an elevation gradient. Thus comparing the properties of decaying wood of dead trees and the soils directly under the influence of decaying wood, it is possible to study the role of dead tree wood trees as active sites (hotspots) for microbial abundance and diversity.
