Sediments from Pacific Coast Oxygen Minimum Zone Basins

Samples were collected aboard the research expedition with R/V Oceanus in May/June of 2018. Sediments were collected with a gravity corer from five sites, each in a different coastal basin, capturing a range of water depths within the upwelling zone along the continental margins of California and Mexico. The basins were along the coast of California (San Clemente, Catalina, San Pedro) which are generally hypoxic, and along the coast of Mexican (Soledad and San Blas) which are typically anoxic. Surface sediments were sectioned at 0.5 cm increments to 5 cm depth, for DNA sequencing.
