Project name: De novo sequence assembly of Catla catla/Gibelion catla (Indian Major Carps)and genome annotation to unveil genetic variations to explore the evolution and adaptation at genome level from Halda river.The proposed project will have the following specific objectives:-1. To develop a draft genome of Catla catla/Gibelion catla(Indian Major Carps) with high sequence coverage (100X) using next-generation sequencing (NGS) approach.2. To identify genome heterozygosity and gene(s) associated with different essential traits (e.g., Adaptation, breeding and evolution).3. To determine the genetic characterization & genetic diversity of this Indian major carp well as to detect distinct features of Halda river carps.4. To strengthen national and international collaboration towards capacity building and human resource development to promote Halda river population conservation.
