Microplastic (MP) pollution is increasing and often co-exists with other endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), causing potentially toxic effects on aquatic biota. In a previous study, we found that polystyrene (PS) microplastics exacerbate 17-methyltestosterone (MT) damage to zebrafish gonads. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the toxic effects of PS and MT (alone and in combination) on the zebrafish gut-liver axis after 21 d of exposure.
