Soil microcosms were set up to delineate the shift in dominance and response strategies of specific microbial groups involved in straw residue derived C assimilation in soils after straw returning for years compared to strategies after no nitrogen fertilizer application and mineral fertilization with 13C-Stable isotope probing.
