Youth Smoking Survey, 1994 [Canada]: LFS Component

The Youth Smoking Survey (YSS) was conducted by Statistics Canada in the fall of 1994, on behalf of Health Canada. The prime objective was to provide information on smoking behaviour of young people in the ten provinces of Canada. This marks the first time that a national smoking survey of young people has been conducted in Canada. This survey focuses on youths 10 to 19 years of age. Data for person 10 to 14 years of age were collected through a sample of students in classrooms across Canada. Youth aged 15 to 19 were interviewed as a supplement to the Labour Force Survey. Essentially the same question content was used for the two components; however, the collection methodologies of the two components differed significantly.
