RNA and DNA Metavirome data of Leech Poecilobdella manillensis

Leeches, members of the class Hirudinea, have long captivated scientific curiosity due to their unique biology and ecological roles in freshwater ecosystems. Despite their historical association with bloodletting in traditional medicine, contemporary research has unveiled a diversity of leech species that play pivotal roles in aquatic environments. These annelids exhibit remarkable adaptability and are found in a wide array of habitats, ranging from freshwater ponds to terrestrial environments. In this research, we undertook a comprehensive exploration of the leech metavirome, employing advanced sequencing technologies to scrutinize both RNA and DNA components. The utilization of high-throughput sequencing facilitated an in-depth analysis of the genetic diversity and composition of viruses associated with leeches.
