Global Built-up Land per Capita (BPC) and Socioeconomic Drivers: Historical Data (1985–2020) and Scenario-based Projections under SSPs (2010–2100)

This dataset accompanies the study “Diverging trajectories of built-up land dynamics for country groups by income until 2100”, which examines the socioeconomic determinants and future trajectories of built-up land per capita (BPC) across the globe under five Shared Socioeconomic Pathway (SSP) scenarios. The dataset provides both the historical panel data used for regression analysis of 129 countries (1985–2020) and the projection data (2010–2100) used toproject BPC and total built-up land area for 157 countries. It enables researchers to reproduce the analysis, explore alternative model specifications, or integrate the projections into spatially explicit land-use models. 1. All socioeconomic and demographic variables are obtained from publicly available databases consistent with the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP) framework 2. All country names follow ISO3 codes for consistency. 3. The 2010 BPC values are calibrated to observed data and are identical across all SSPs. Scenario divergence begins after 2010.
