Since the early 1970s the European Commission´s Standard & Special Eurobarometer are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries. Principal investigators are the Directorate-General Communication and on occasion other departments of the European Commission or the European Parliament. Over time, candidate and accession countries were included in the Standard Eurobarometer Series. Selected questions or modules may not have been surveyed in each sample. Please consult the basic questionnaire for more information on country filter instructions or other questionnaire routing filters. In this study the following modules are included: 1. Parlemeter 2022, 2. International communications within the EU, 3. Key challenges of our times - autumn 2022. Topics: 1. Parlemeter 2022: recent reception of media reports on the European Parliament; level of interest in European affairs; image of the European Parliament; desired importance of the role of the European Parliament; prioritized values to be defended by the European Parliament; preferred issues to be a main priority of the European Parliament; assessment of the own country’s membership in the EU as a good thing; personal importance of the own country being a member state of the EU; benefits from the EU membership and reasons for benefit; confidence that personal life remains unchanged despite the war in Ukraine; approval of the European Union´s support for Ukraine following Russia´s invasion of Ukraine; approval of the measures taken by the European Union to support Ukraine since the beginning of the war; satisfacion with the cooperation between EU member states in addressing the consequences of the war in Ukraine; consequences of the war on personal standard of living: is already reduced, is not yet reduced but is expected to be, no impact expected, has increased; worries about each of the following issues for personal life and the life of close ones: climate change, migration, risk of a nuclear incident, rising cost of living, spread of the war in Ukraine to other countries, spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 or monkey pox, risks to common European values, poverty and social exclusion; satisfaction with measures taken to tackle rising cost of living by: national government, EU; awareness of the date of the next European elections in the own country; interest in the next European elections; importance to vote in European and in national elections; reasons for (not) voting; frequency of voting in past elections; reasons that prevented from voting in elections or a referendum: health problems, away from home, too busy, no time, involved in family or leisure activity, no knowledge that an election was being held, unexpected problem that prevented from reaching the polling station, no help by getting to the polling station, forgotten, registration or voting card problems, other, always voted; likelihood to vote if the next European Parliament elections would be held next week; participation in the last elections to: European Parliament, national parliament, local parliaments; optimism about the future of the EU. 2. International communications within the EU: frequency of the following activities: make international phone calls over a landline phone within the EU, make international phone calls over a mobile phone within the EU, make international calls via internet applications (VoIP) within the EU, make international calls to a phone number using internet applications (VoIP) within the EU, send international SMS within the EU, use instant messaging services to reach people within the EU; awareness of cost caps for calls and SMS between EU countries; frequency of calls between EU countries since the introduction of the cost cap using: mobile phone, landline phone; preferred means for international communications within the EU: landline phone, mobile phone, internet applications, internet applications used from a phone number, SMS, instant internet messaging service, no preference, no use of these means; reasons for the choice of means. 3. Key challenges of our times - autumn 2022: most important problems facing the EU at the moment; satisfaction with the response to the Russian invasion in Ukraine by the European Union; attitude towards selected statements: EU should invest massively in renewable energies, increasing energy efficiency of buildings and transport and goods will make us less dependent from energy producers outside the EU, EU member states should jointly buy energy from other countries to get a better price, renewable energy can limit the price for energy consumption in the long run, personally taken action to reduce own energy consumption or planning to do so, war in Ukraine has had serious financial consequences for personal life. Demography: age; nationality; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; frequency of discussions about political matters on national, European, and local level; age at end of education; highest completed level of full time education; sex; occupation; professional position; type of community; financial difficulties during the last year; internet use (at home, at work, at school); self-reported belonging to the working class, the middle class or the upper class of society; left-right self-placement; own voice counts in the own country and in the EU; own country’s voice counts in the EU; EU image; general direction things are going in: own country, EU, personal life; satisfaction with democracy in the own country and in the EU; self-rated living standard of own household; expected development in the next year: personal living conditions, national economy. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; country; mode of interview; date of interview; time of the beginning of the interview; duration of the interview; number of persons present during the interview; respondent cooperation; size of locality; language of the interview; region; weighting factor.
